Science AA - Simple Machines

This AA is all about Simple Machines. We were asked to make a complex machines out of 4 simple machin es but sadly, my group only got 3.
We had to make a video/movie out of what we got and yeah :P. I didn't want to post it on YouTube so I put it on MediaFire.

The video is basically all about the AA...

Thank you ^^

Yeast Experiment

In this experiment, we were asked to experiment about how yeast reproduce.

We were asked to bring 2 balloons, 2 packs of yeast, and sugar.

First, we pour hot water to a beaker. Then, we put in the sugar to the hot water. After that, we put the yeast to the beaker and immediately put the balloon over it. This was for beaker A. The second one was the same, but with no sugar.

We then see which balloon grew big faster. And we inferred that for yeast/cells to grow and reproduce, it needs a source of energy and in this experiment, the source of energy was the sugar.

Science AA: Talk Show

Our Science Alternative Assessment was about the unit : Caring for ourselves and others. We were asked to make a talk show about drug, alcohol, tobacco or how to protect for ourselves from abuse.
Our group (Justin, Michael.T, Jennifer, Me) talked about drug, tobacco, and alcohol abuse.

Justin was the host of the talk show
Jennifer and Michael are the guests
I (Nadeen) was the one who wrote the script

I think we would've done better if we didn't wait until last minute. But, we actually did it (:p).
We were supposed to make a PowerPoint Presentation as well, but we didn't make it because it was a last minute preparation.

Summary Unit 19: Gravitational and frictional forces

Forces can be of different types such as Gravitational force and frictional force.

Gravitational force is a force which pulls all objects downwards and causes objects to have weight.

While frictional force, has many effects and can be useful or even cause problems. Problems caused by frictional force are for example it can slow down objects, it could overheat engines and wear out tyres. But the problems could be overcomed using lubricants and rollers and wheels.

Science E-Portfolio tag: Electric Circuit-Building activity

I liked this project because it was fun.We get to learn more about making electric circuits because I have did this at grade 4 but this was more complicated than the one we made at grade 4 because we were asked to make 2 electric circuits which are parallel and series.

There were 7 groups and each group has 4 members. My group managed to make only one electric circuit. Even thought we managed to make 1 electric circuit we still get to do the other one soon. It was a fun activity and I'm looking forward for more.

Mini parachute experiment

Last week, our class did an experiment about air pressure. It was making a toy parachute. We were asked to bring :

-a small toy
-a big plastic bag
-string
-scissors

How to make it was not really hard :

1. make a cone shape of one side of the plastic bag and cut it, it will shape like a circle

2. make at least 8 holes on the end of the circle

3. cut the string and tie it on the end of every hole

4. tie the toy on the strings

5. decorate if you want

after making, it's time to throw the parachute from the heights :P

It was a fun experiment, I hope we can do more in the future !

Annual Project 2012

Annual Project 2012! To me it's a kinda fun thing :p. Our theme is 'Ancient Civilization'.  In science, we were divided into groups and we were asked to make a miniature of an architectural invention (building) of each country that we were divided to. My group got the country Greece (Ancient Greece). It's kind of hard. My group made the 'Temple of Athena' and we called it 'Small Temple of Athena' :).

We used:

- DAS Clay : We used DAS Clay because it doesn't dry really long and it's strong when it's dry
- Toothpick : We used toothpick to make the pillars stand and we used this because it is really easy to make the clay stand
- Styrofoam : We used this because it could easily stand and it is really easy to stick
- Glue : We used glue to stick the things together (you know..) because it is sticky and dries really easy
- Aerosol Spray : We used this to color the miniature because the color stands out and it's easy to use even if it smells :P
